A latest study has recommended that the percentage of children with allergies of peanut has tripled in just over a decade whereas the actual number of children having allergy was supposed to be in small amount.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated:

These results show that there is an alarming increase in peanut allergies, consistent with a general, although less dramatic, rise in food allergies among children.

In 2008, 5300 households were surveyed by the researchers which revealed that 1.4 percent of children were supposed to have peanut allergies. The percentage of children with allergies to either peanuts or tree nuts increased to 2.1 percent in 2008 from 0.6 percent in 1997. The level of peanut allergies among the adults did not change. It remained at 1.3 percent.

Dr. Scott H. Sicherer, professor of pediatrics at the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at Mount Sinai School of Medicine stated:
Our research shows that more than 3 million Americans report peanut or tree nut allergies, representing a major health burden. The data also emphasize the significance of developing better strategies for prevention and treatment.

It is not obvious why the number of reported allergies is on the rise. One theory advocates that people are developing less immunity to allergens because they are exposed to fewer germs. Another theory advocates that people are incorrectly diagnosed with food allergies that they do not actually possess.

Filed in archive About on May 5, 2010

Allergy free perfume launched by Eva Longoria
Do you know that Eva Longoria Parker is allergic to scent and as a result had to stay away from fragrance for quite a while? She admitted that she was jealous of other women who could wear perfume and never ever thought that she should make her own perfume which won't make her sneeze.

Eva Longoria Parker stated:
I've been allergic my entire life. If someone were wearing perfume next to me, I would sneeze and sneeze and sneeze. I always admired people who wore perfume - I was like, 'Gosh, I wish I could wear one.

This prompted her agent to ask her to create her own fragrance. Finally, she has launched her own perfume which is dubbed as Eva by Eva Longoria Parker. This Day Fragrance has warm, citrusy notes. She always wanted a clean and fresh fragrance, something which smelled as if someone has just got out of the shower and to fulfill this very dream came up with this scent.

I think all people who are allergic to fragrance can try it out!!

Are you a victim of allergy who also loves alcohol, then time has come to give it a miss as studies indicate that alcohol can aggravate common symptoms of asthma and hay fever such as coughing, itching, headache and sneezing?

Drinks such as wine, beer and liquor contain histamine which sets off allergy symptoms. Beer and wine also include sulfite which tends to provoke asthma and other allergy related symptoms. Red and white wine have also been found out to trigger allergy symptoms and women are twice as likely to be affected as men.

As per study published in the journal Clinical and Experimental Allergy, it has been found out that consuming more than two glasses of wine a day doubles the risk of allergy symptoms.

At the end of the day women are more susceptible to allergies by consuming alcohol as compared to men.

A recent report in Pediatrics states that flu shots are safe for kids suffering from egg allergies. Earlier there were apprehensions about giving flu shot to kids suffering from egg allergies because all flu vaccines are made from chicken eggs.

In U.S., one in sixty children suffers from egg allergy. Generally doctors carry out skin test for finding out whether children suffering from egg allergy are allergic to flu vaccine or not. Influenza vaccines being prepared today have small amounts of egg protein which is a millionth of an egg.

As per researchers, parents of children suffering from egg allergies need to be aware that their kid can receive the vaccine and it should be discussed with their physician. Every child between the age of six months and eighteen years of age should get flu shots and this is necessary for kids suffering from asthma as they are at higher risk of flu complications.

It's Not Just Weather Which Causes Allergy

Its not just weather which causes allergy

Come spring and the temperature starts to head north. This is the season when allergy symptoms start to surface which means people suffering from allergy start to have a tough time. There is a general notion that cases of allergy rise during this season due to the number of pollen traveling through the winds from flowers and plants. This is a completely wrong thinking because allergy is not just caused by the pollen itself rather by the manner in which the immune system handles it.

As per Dr. Constantine Saadeh, an Allergy Specialist:

Normally we should be making IGE, which is a protein that should be fighting parasites, but in patients who have allergies they make IGE against the pollens, which normally should not be the case, so that's why some people have allergies.

There are several ways to treat these allergies and if you have symptoms but would still like to go outside then the best time to venture out would be between 4-8 pm.
